Call for Entry Another important aspect is the way we select the participating artists. Through a Call for Entry, we invite everyone to submit work, or make a proposal for new work. Emerging artists are given as much consideration as the more established ones. A real exploration, in other words. (Inter)national The focus lies on Chinese Video Art, but a couple of international artists are invited to join the discussion, and the Belgian Film Festival Courtisane makes a distinct selection of International Video Art. The general philosophy is to go beyond a pure display of international work, but to pursue interaction and exchange. Courtisane will not only bring international work to China, but will at the same time show Chinese video art on the following edition of their festival in Belgium. Borderline covers three residencies, inviting a choreographer and two video artists. They will develop or deepen new work in Beijing, with the Chinese context as added value. They will be part of the workshop and conference program Borderline sets up with CAFA. Artistic platform Borderline is organized in the spirit of collaboration. We respect the autonomy of every partner in making its own artistic choices, but through the set up of an artistic platform -- reuniting the partners and some experts in the field -- we discuss and reflect as a team on every proposition, in order to create coherence and interaction. The artistic platform will evaluate the propositions we receive through the Call for Entry, reflect on projects from partners, discuss the way work should be presented and in what space, and give input for the conference and workshops to be organized with CAFA. Borderline Video Art Festival Artistic Platform Rosario Scarpato and Monica Piccioni (offiCina), Frank Uytterhaegen (Chinese Modern Art Foundation), Bérénice Angremy and Huang Rui (Thinking Hands), Pi Li (The Central Academy of Fine Arts and Universal Studios), Yao Bin (Beijing Cubic Art Center), Sun Ning (Platform China), Wu Wenguang (Caochangdi Workstation), Leo de Boisgisson (86/33 Link), Pauline Doutreluingne and Els Silvrants (Theatre in Motion) In close collaboration with the team of the Courtisane festival in Ghent, Belgium. |
